To set up the game, place one lake tile, face-up, in the center of your playing area. This is the starting point of your lake. Then, shuffle the remaining 27 lake tiles and divide them into two face-down stacks, placing them to the left of your lake. Finally, place the eight unique blossom tokens, face-up, to the right of your lake. You are now ready to begin.
Obiectiv
The primary objective of A Gentle Rain is to cooperatively bloom all eight unique blossom tokens. You achieve this by strategically placing lake tiles to form 2x2 squares where all four half-lilies in the center match in color. Each time such a square is completed, you get to bloom one of the corresponding colored blossom tokens from your supply.
O tură
On your turn, you first draw one lake tile from either of the two face-down stacks. You must then place this tile adjacent to any existing tile in your lake. The crucial rule for placement is that all connecting sides between the new tile and existing tiles must have matching half-lily colors. After successfully placing a tile, you draw a new tile to replenish your hand.
Punctaj
If you successfully bloom all eight unique blossom tokens, you win the game. Your final score is calculated by taking 8 points (for blooming all blossoms) and adding 1 point for each lake tile remaining in the face-down stacks. The highest possible score is 21, which is achieved by blooming all eight blossoms with the maximum number of remaining tiles.

The game concludes in one of two ways. You win if you successfully bloom all eight unique blossom tokens. The game ends in a loss if you draw a lake tile and cannot make a legal placement on the board, meaning there are no available spots where all connecting half-lily colors can be matched. There is no way to move a tile once it has been placed.

To maximize your chances of blooming lilies, prioritize creating opportunities for 2x2 squares. Be mindful of the colors on the edges of your placed tiles, as you'll need to match them. Avoid creating configurations that lead to 'dead spaces' where no future tile can be legally placed, as this can prematurely end your game. Remember, all colors are evenly distributed among the tiles, and no single tile has two sides of the same color.
