On November 15, 1893, eleven interested readers of the Basler Nationalzeitung met to be shoe makers in the Basler pub of the guild, including members of a rowing club, academics and a sports journalist (who translated the football rules from English) and decided to found the FC Basel.

On November 15, 1893, eleven interested readers of the Basler Nationalzeitung met to be shoe makers in the Basler pub of the guild, including members of a rowing club, academics and a sports journalist (who translated the football rules from English) and decided to found the FC Basel. The club colors were kept in red and blue. Just eleven days later, the club's first game took place on the freshly set up Landhof sports field.
In 1953, FC Basel celebrated the first championship title in the club's history with just one defeat out of 26 games. In the Benthaus era, FC Basel won 7 championship titles and 2 cups. In the Benthaus era, legends such as Karl Odermatt and Othmar Hitzfeld.
