Ad-Lib Crossword Cubes

Ad-Lib Crossword Cubes, originally released as Scribbage in 1963 by E.S. Lowe, is a fast-paced word game that challenges players to form interconnected words using lettered dice. The game includes 13 letter cubes, each marked with a letter and a point value, a dice cup, a sand timer, and instructions printed inside the box lid.

To play, a player rolls all 13 cubes and, within the time limit set by the sand timer, arranges them into a crossword-style grid where all words are interconnected horizontally or vertically. Two of the cubes feature wild symbols, allowing them to represent any letter. Each letter carries a point value based on its frequency in the English language, with common letters like 'E' and 'A' valued at 1 point, and rarer letters like 'Q' and 'Z' valued at 8 and 10 points respectively. Players score by adding up the points of all letters used in valid words, counting letters used in multiple words more than once, and then subtracting the points of any unused letters.

The game can be played solo or with multiple players, either individually or in teams. In multiplayer games, players can take turns or compete simultaneously, striving to achieve the highest score by forming the most valuable interconnected words within the time limit.
