Setup

Place 3 battlefield boards (Air, Land, Sea) in any order between players; each player gets 1 Commander card (OB1 starts, wins ties) and 6 combat cards; remaining 6 combat cards form a face-down pile.

The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up the game, first place the three battlefield boards (Air, Land, Sea) in any order between the two players. Each player then receives one Commander card (either OB1 or OB2); the player with the OB1 card starts the game and wins any ties. Additionally, each player is dealt six combat cards from a shuffled deck of 18 cards. The remaining six combat cards are placed face-down to form a hidden combat pile, which is not drawn from during the game.
Objective
The primary objective of Air, Land, & Sea is to be the first player to accumulate 12 or more victory points. Victory points are earned by winning individual battles. A battle can be won in one of two ways: either by controlling more battlefields than your opponent after all cards have been played, or by forcing your opponent to retreat from the current battle.
On your turn
Players take turns performing one of three actions: playing a card, improvising, or retreating. When playing a card, a player can either play a combat card face-up to a matching battlefield (e.g., an Air card to the Air battlefield) or play a card face-down to any battlefield. Playing a card face-down allows flexibility but reduces its combat strength to 2 and negates any card effects. Improvising involves playing a card face-down to any battlefield. Retreating means a player gives up the current battle, and the opponent earns victory points based on the number of cards remaining in the retreating player's hand.
Scoring
Victory points are awarded at the end of each battle. If a battle concludes with all cards played (no retreat), the player who controls more battlefields (by having a higher total combat strength on their side of the board) wins 6 victory points. If a player forces their opponent to retreat, the winning player earns victory points based on the number of cards remaining in the retreating opponent's hand, as indicated on the retreating player's Commander card (ranging from 2 to 6 points).
Game end
The game continues through multiple battles until one player accumulates 12 or more victory points. That player is then declared the winner. After each battle, the battlefield order is rotated (the rightmost board moves to the leftmost position), and Commander cards are swapped between players to ensure fairness and varied gameplay.
Tips
Effectively managing your hand of six combat cards is crucial, as no new cards are drawn during a battle. Commander cards provide unique advantages, such as winning ties or influencing retreat scoring, so understanding their abilities is key. Playing cards face-down can be a strategic move to bluff your opponent or to deploy a card to a non-matching battlefield, but be mindful of the reduced combat strength and loss of card effects. Pay attention to the adjacency of battlefields, as some card effects interact with neighboring locations. Knowing when to retreat can minimize point losses and save stronger cards for future battles.
