At the Gates of Loyang

To set up At the Gates of Loyang, each player receives their own player board representing their personal fields and storage area. Players also get ten coins, initial vegetable tokens, and their private decks of field cards alongside the common action cards. The supply of vegetables and coins is placed centrally within reach of both players.

The main goal is to navigate the path of prosperity over nine rounds. Players achieve this by planting and harvesting vegetables, trading at market stalls, and fulfilling orders for regular and casual customers to earn money and advance their marker along the prosperity track.

Every round is divided into three distinct phases. First is the harvest phase, where players advance vegetable growth and move vegetables into storage. Second is the card phase, where action cards are drafted in a round-robin style to hand or courtyard. Finally, the action phase allows players to perform up to eight different actions in any order, such as sowing fields, buying or selling goods, using helpers, and serving customers.

Points and progression are measured directly on the prosperity track. Players advance by spending money earned from fulfilling customer orders and managing their vegetable yields effectively throughout the rounds.

The game concludes automatically at the end of the ninth round. The player who has progressed the furthest along the prosperity track is declared the winner, with remaining money serving as a tiebreaker.
