The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up Atlandice, place the circular game board in the center of the playing area. Distribute the various resource tokens (diamonds, books, food, weapons) into their corresponding districts on the board. Each player receives a submarine token and two dice of their chosen color. The clock hand is placed on the starting space of the central track.
Objective
The main objective of Atlandice is to accumulate the most victory points by the time Atlantis completely sinks. Players achieve this by strategically collecting resources from different districts and by having the majority of certain resources when specific conditions are met.
On your turn
Each round begins with all players rolling their two dice. The numbers rolled indicate which districts are 'open' for that round (e.g., a roll of 1 means district 1 is open). Players take turns choosing one of their rolled dice, moving their submarine to the corresponding open district, collecting a resource from that district, and activating any special effects associated with it. For example, some districts allow players to take two resources instead of one, or to move the submarine to any other district. After all players have taken two turns (one for each die), the remaining unchosen die determines how many spaces the central clock hand moves forward.
Scoring
There are two primary ways to score victory points. Firstly, when the clock hand lands on a space with a resource icon, the player who currently possesses the most of that specific resource gains one victory point. Secondly, when a district becomes completely empty of its resources, the player who has collected the most resources from that particular district receives a victory point tile for that district, which grants a set number of victory points at the end of the game.
Game end
The game concludes immediately when the clock hand on the central track reaches the final space. At this point, players tally their victory points from collected resource tiles and any other scoring conditions. The player with the highest total of victory points is declared the winner and has successfully saved the most valuable treasures from the sinking city of Atlantis.
Tips
Atlandice is a game of opportunism and tactical decision-making. Players should constantly monitor not only their own resources but also those of their opponents to identify opportunities to gain majorities. Understanding the effects of each district and anticipating how the clock hand will move are crucial for planning turns effectively. Being flexible and adapting to the dice rolls and other players' actions is key to maximizing your score.
