The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up Bang! Gold Rush, place the 30 gold nuggets in a central pile. Shuffle the Gold Rush equipment cards and place them face down to form a draw pile. Then, flip the top three cards from this deck face up to create a market row. These cards are available for purchase during the game.
Objective
The primary objective of Bang! Gold Rush remains the same as the base Bang! game: each player's role (Sheriff, Deputy, Outlaw, Renegade) has a specific victory condition. However, Gold Rush introduces gold as a new resource and additional actions, adding strategic depth to how players achieve their goals.
On your turn
During their turn, players can perform three additional actions beyond the standard Bang! actions. They can play any number of Beer cards to gain one gold per card, but these Beer cards do not restore health. Players can also purchase face-up equipment cards from the market by paying their gold cost; once purchased, a new card is immediately drawn to replace it. Finally, players can discard an opponent's equipment card by paying one more gold than its cost.
Scoring
Players earn gold by dealing damage to other players. For every point of damage successfully dealt, the attacking player receives one gold nugget from the reserve. This applies to all damage-dealing cards, including Bang! cards, Gatling, and Indians.
Game end
When a player's life points drop to zero, they are not immediately eliminated from the game. Instead, they become a 'Ghost Renegade' or 'Ghost Deputy' (depending on their original role) and continue to participate. Ghost players do not lose their accumulated gold and can still use it to buy equipment. However, at the end of their turn, they must discard all cards in their hand and all equipment cards they possess.
Tips
The 'Ghost Renegade' card has a unique dynamic: its allegiance shifts based on the current state of the game. If the Sheriff's team (Sheriff + Deputies) has more eliminated players than the Outlaws, the Ghost Renegade will support the Sheriff. Conversely, if the Outlaws have more eliminated players, the Ghost Renegade will support the Outlaws. Other ghost roles, like the Ghost Deputy, maintain their original alignment. When calculating distances for attacks or effects, ghost players are skipped, meaning they are not considered as active players for these purposes.
