Setup
Players receive a honeycomb board, a marker, and a bee; the game board is set up with a start tile, flower tiles, and nectar tokens, and objective cards are sorted and revealed.
The rules, step by step
Setup
Each player receives a honeycomb board, a marker, and a bee in their chosen color. The game board is set up by placing the start tile in the center, surrounded by one of each type of flower tile and one leaf tile. The remaining flower tiles and two more leaf tiles are placed around this initial setup, ensuring no two leaf tiles or same-colored flower tiles are adjacent. Three small nectar tokens are placed on the three points of all flower tiles, and one large nectar token is placed in the center of the outer flower tiles. Nectar tokens are placed according to the color of the circles on the tiles. Objective cards are sorted by cap color, shuffled, and three public objective cards (one of each color) are revealed. Each player draws one card from each objective pile, chooses two private objectives, and discards the third face down. The first player is chosen randomly or by who last ate honey, and players place their bees on an outer space of the start tile, facing outwards, in reverse turn order.
Objective
The main objective of Beez is to collect the most honey drops by strategically flying your bee, collecting nectar, and depositing it into your honeycomb to fulfill both public and private objectives. The player with the most honey drops at the end of the game wins.
On your turn
Each turn consists of three phases: 1. Flight Planning: Players choose a direction and distance (1-5 spaces) for their bee to fly, indicated by the numbers on the bee's base. If two options are available for a chosen direction, one is selected. The bee is then rotated to face the chosen direction. 2. Flying and Nectar Collection: Players move their bee the planned distance in a straight line. The flight must end on an empty space. If the bee lands on a leaf tile with a water drop, it can immediately plan and take another flight. If the bee lands on a flower tile, it collects nectar: a small token if landing on an outer point, or a large token and an adjacent small token if landing in the center. 3. Nectar Deposition: Collected nectar is deposited onto the player's honeycomb board. Small and large nectar tokens are treated identically for placement. Nectar must be placed on a free space corresponding to the distance flown to collect it. Once placed, nectar cannot be moved. For each nectar token placed, the player moves their marker one space up the track on their honeycomb board.
Scoring
At the end of the game, players reveal their private objectives. Points are awarded for fulfilling both public and private objectives based on the patterns and colors of nectar tokens on their honeycomb board. The player with the highest total number of honey drops wins. In case of a tie, the player with the most large nectar tokens wins. If there's still a tie, the tied players share the victory.
Game end
The game concludes immediately when any player has deposited 12 or more nectar tokens onto their honeycomb board and has moved their marker to the end of the track. The current round is then completed so that all players have had an equal number of turns. After the round ends, players reveal their private objectives, and final scoring commences.
Tips
To maximize your score, try to fulfill both public and private objectives simultaneously. Pay attention to the nectar colors and patterns required for your private objectives, and observe public objectives to see which patterns other players might be aiming for. Utilizing leaf tiles for extra flights can provide a significant advantage. In a 2-player game, the setup is slightly different: only five flower tiles and one leaf tile are used to create the outer ring around the start tile, with the remaining tiles returned to the box. The rest of the rules remain the same.
