To set up a game of boop., place the quilted fabric board in the center of the table between the two players. Each player selects a color—orange or grey—and takes the corresponding set of eight small kittens, placing them in their personal supply. The larger, full-grown cats of each color are set aside near the board to form a reserve supply that players will draw from during the game as kittens graduate.

The main goal of boop. is to be the first player to successfully get three of your full-sized cats into a straight line of three. This winning line can be formed horizontally, vertically, or diagonally anywhere across the 6x6 grid of the fabric quilt board.

On your turn, you place one of your kittens from your supply onto any unoccupied square of the board. Whenever a kitten is placed, any adjacent pieces—whether kittens or cats, and regardless of player color—are 'booped,' meaning they are pushed one space directly away from the newly placed piece. If a piece is pushed off the edge of the board, it returns to its owner's supply.

There is no point tracking in boop. Instead, successful tactical placements that align three of your kittens in a row cause them to graduate, removing them from the board and replacing them with three larger cats in your reserve. Similarly, lining up three full-sized cats wins the game.

The game concludes instantly when a player manages to align three full-grown cats in a row on the board, making them the winner. Alternatively, a player can win if they manage to place all of their cats onto the board at the end of a turn, or if a player runs out of pieces to play.
