Canopy

To set up Canopy, place the growth cards or boards in the center as your game board. Shuffle the seed cards and place them on their designated spot. Shuffle all rainforest cards together, remove ten randomly, and divide the rest into three roughly equal piles placed on the three season spaces. Deal one card to new growth one, two to new growth two, and three to new growth three. Finally, give each player a starting trunk card, and you are ready to begin playing.

The main objective of Canopy is to draft cards from new growth piles to build your own forest tableau consisting of trees, plants, and wildlife, aiming to score the highest number of points by growing tall trees and collecting sets.

Turns in Canopy are fast and simple. Players look at the new growth piles in order. For each pile, you can either choose to keep the cards and add them to your forest, ending your turn, or pass on them by returning them face down, adding a new card from the deck, and moving to the next pile. If you pass on all piles, you must take a single blind card from the top of the deck.

Scoring occurs at the end of each season. You score points for completed trees with canopies, plant collections based on how many you collected, weather card pairs, and matching wildlife pairs. Disasters like drought, disease, and fire force you to discard cards from your forest, affecting your score.

The game ends after the completion of three seasons. When the rainforest deck and all growth piles are completely depleted, players finish the final season, score remaining matching wildlife pairs and tree bonuses, and determine the winner with the most points.
