Catan: Dawn of Humankind

To set up Catan: Dawn of Humankind, place the double-sided game board in the center with the correct player count side face up. Arrange the four progress tracks (clothing, construction, food, and hunting) with their related victory point tiles. Set out the numbered discs onto the map following the rulebook chart. Place resource cards in a tray sorted by hide, bone, meat, and flint, alongside special victory point tiles and adaptation tiles. Position cloud formations, animal tokens, and campsite tokens on the board. Finally, give each player their color components (explorers, camps, progress markers), place one marker on each progress track, position initial camps and explorers as illustrated in the rules, and deal an opening hand of one hide and one bone card.

The main objective of Catan: Dawn of Humankind is to guide your tribe across the globe, exploring and surviving over 150,000 years of human history. Players compete to be the first to accumulate 10 victory points by establishing camps, advancing their civilization along four progress tracks, and collecting special expansion and exploration tiles.

A player's turn is divided into two main phases: production and action. During the production phase, the active player rolls two dice, and every player receives resources from adjacent hexes matching the rolled number sum. Next, in the action phase, the active player can perform multiple actions in any order. These include trading resource cards with other players or the bank, creating new explorers, moving explorers across intersections, converting explorers into permanent camps, and advancing progress markers on the clothing, construction, food, or hunting tracks.

Scoring points is achieved through several mechanics. Upgrading progress tracks to their final levels awards unique victory point tokens. Establishing new camps of all four types grants a rapid expansion tile worth two points, while subsequent full sets are worth one point each. Additionally, exploration tiles reveal various bonuses, and holding the greatest exploration tile provides extra victory points.

The game concludes immediately during a player's turn as soon as they have successfully collected 10 or more victory points. That player is then declared the winner of the game.
