The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up the game, first place the main board in the center of the table. Place 50 pounds of money on the designated space on the main board. Separate the Factory Parts cards into two decks, A and B, shuffle them separately, and then place deck B face down on its designated space, followed by deck A face down on top of it. Separate the Corner Shop cards into three decks (Small, Medium, Large), shuffle them, and place them face down on their designated spaces. Separate the Supermarket cards by type, shuffle them, and place them face up below the main board. Separate the Employee cards by type, shuffle them, and place them face down above the main board. Each player receives a player board, 7 crate tiles (4 for the production line, 3 for the left side), a storage card, a reference card, and 9 player markers of their chosen color. Place one player marker on each of the 3 Corner Shop cards, one on each of the 5 Supermarket cards, and one on space 0 of the money track. Place all chocolate and coal tokens in a general supply. The player who last ate a piece of chocolate receives the first player token.
Objective
The main objective of Chocolate Factory is to accumulate the most money by the end of the game. Players achieve this by efficiently managing their chocolate factory, producing various types of chocolate, fulfilling orders from Corner Shops and Supermarkets, and strategically hiring employees and expanding their factory.
On your turn
The game is played over six days, from Monday to Saturday, with each day consisting of five phases. In the Prepare phase, players receive coal based on the current day's value on the main board, which is stored on their storage card. In the Expand & Recruit phase, players draft Factory Part and Employee cards; players choose one card from a packet and discard the rest, then repeat in reverse order. In the Run Factory phase, players operate their factory machines to produce chocolate; this involves moving crates, operating machines using coal, and producing chocolate. In the Fulfill Orders phase, players use the chocolate from their storage to complete orders from Corner Shops and Supermarkets, earning money. Finally, the Cleanup phase involves discarding excess chocolate (keeping only two in storage), returning used coal to the supply, replacing completed Corner Shop orders, discarding used Employee cards, and advancing the day marker.
Scoring
Players earn money throughout the game by fulfilling orders. For Corner Shop orders, players deliver specific types and quantities of chocolate to complete levels on the cards, moving their player marker up the money track on the main board. Supermarket orders are fulfilled by delivering chocolate types specified by the player's current employee card, and players earn money based on their position on the Supermarket card. At the end of the game, after the Saturday Cleanup phase, players receive additional money: 12 pounds for having the most completed Corner Shop orders (or 12 pounds each in case of a tie), bonus money for completing 3, 4, or 5 Corner Shop orders (6, 12, or 24 pounds respectively), and 1 pound for each chocolate and coal token remaining in their storage.
Game end
The game concludes at the end of the sixth day, Saturday. After the final Cleanup phase on Saturday, players proceed directly to final scoring. Each player counts their total money from the money track, any bonus money from completed Corner Shop orders, and 1 pound for each chocolate and coal token remaining in their storage. The player with the highest total money wins the game. In case of a tie, the tied player whose turn was later in the Saturday round wins.
Tips
To gain an early advantage, consider eating a piece of chocolate right before the game starts to become the first player. During the Run Factory phase, it's recommended to operate your machines one by one rather than simultaneously with other players. This allows you to observe their actions and adjust your strategy, potentially optimizing your production and resource management based on their moves and the available components.
