Chronicles of Crime

To set up Chronicles of Crime, place the central evidence board in the play area and keep the location sheets nearby, with Scotland Yard placed at the bottom. Organize the character, special item, and evidence category decks, keeping them easily accessible. Lay out the four forensic contact boards, which players can share or divide among themselves. Finally, download and open the companion app, select your desired story and scenario, and follow any initial prompt to reveal starting characters like the chief officer.

The main objective is to act as a team of forensic experts solving complex murder mysteries in London. Players must gather clues, interrogate witnesses, visit various city locations, and consult forensic specialists to piece together the truth behind each crime efficiently and accurately.

The game does not use traditional individual turns. Instead, players collaborate to decide their next action. Actions are performed by scanning QR codes using the companion app. Players can talk to characters by scanning them while at their location, travel between revealed locations, inspect crime scenes in virtual reality, and consult specialist contacts. Almost every action advances the in-game clock by five minutes, and travel takes twenty minutes.

Scoring is based on two primary factors: the correctness of your final deductions and the total in-game time elapsed. Finishing the case quickly and answering all follow-up questions accurately yields a higher final score.

The game ends when you travel back to Scotland Yard, access the app's case resolution menu, and choose to solve the case. The app will prompt you with a series of questions that you must answer by scanning relevant evidence and character cards before revealing your final score.
