To set up, place the evidence board in the center of the table. Next to it, place the home board. Stack the location cards, special object cards, and character cards face down in separate piles. Place the vision cards face down in a separate pile, to be revealed when indicated by the app. Finally, place the dog card next to the special object and character card piles. The evidence cards should be placed face up, organized by type, ready to be moved to the evidence board as clues are found.

Scanning an evidence card reveals clues, and relevant ones are indicated by the app to be placed on the evidence board. Family members on the home board (monk, merchant, spy) can be scanned for their specific expertise, and the dog can be scanned to track scents related to evidence or people.
Scoring
Scoring is heavily influenced by time. The app tracks the in-game time, which progresses by 5 minutes for each action taken (scanning an object, interrogating a person, or observing a scene) and 20 minutes for moving between locations. The faster players solve the case, the higher their final score will be. Successfully answering the case-closing questions also contributes positively to the score, while incorrect answers may result in penalties.
