Fortress gates are placed on the board along with initial spires, and players gather starting source resources, market cards, and command points to prepare their initial forces.

The ultimate goal is to strategically maneuver units, heroes, and spires down tactical lanes to breach and destroy the opposing player's fortress gate while successfully defending your own core structure from incoming enemy waves.
On your turn
Each game round is broken down into distinct phases: the event phase introduces environmental rule modifiers, the income phase grants source, the market phase allows purchasing new cards, the build phase lets you construct structures, the preparation phase involves deploying units, and the onslaught phase handles movement and combat.
