The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up Codenames: Pictures, players divide into two teams: orange and purple. Each team designates one player as their spymaster, who sits across from their teammates (the guessers). A 5x4 grid of 20 unique picture cards is laid out on the table. A key card, which shows which pictures belong to which team, is placed on a stand between the spymasters, visible only to them. The key card also indicates the starting team and the location of the assassin.
Objective
The primary objective of Codenames: Pictures is for your team to be the first to correctly identify and cover all of your team's designated picture cards. This is achieved by your spymaster giving one-word clues that relate to multiple pictures, and your guessers correctly interpreting those clues to select the right cards.
On your turn
On a team's turn, their spymaster gives a one-word clue and a number. The clue relates to one or more of their team's pictures, and the number indicates how many pictures the clue refers to. The guessers then discuss and point to pictures they believe match the clue. They can make up to the number of guesses given by the spymaster, plus one additional bonus guess. After each guess, the spymaster reveals the identity of the chosen picture.
Scoring
When a guesser points to a picture: if it belongs to their team, it is covered with their team's agent card, and they can make another guess. If it belongs to the opposing team, it is covered with the opposing team's agent card, and their turn immediately ends. If it is a neutral bystander, it is covered with a bystander card, and their turn ends. If they point to the assassin, their team immediately loses the game.
Game end
The game concludes in one of two ways: either one team successfully identifies and covers all of their assigned picture cards, making them the winner, or a team accidentally guesses the assassin card, which results in their immediate loss, and the other team wins.
Tips
Spymasters should aim for clues that link several of their team's pictures together, maximizing the number of correct guesses per turn. However, they must be careful to avoid giving clues that could lead their team to guess an opposing team's picture, a neutral bystander, or especially the assassin. Guessers should communicate and analyze the spymaster's clue carefully, considering all possible interpretations before making a selection.
