How do you play Conan?

The primary objective for the heroes is to rescue the princess and retrieve the shaman's head. Once both items are in the possession of a hero, that hero must then exit the board through a designated exit point. The heroes must achieve this objective within 8 turns. If the Overlord player gets to take their turn on turn 8 and the heroes have not successfully exited with both items, the Overlord wins.

The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up the game, place the 'In the Clutches of the Picts' scenario board on the table. Each hero (Conan, Shevatas, and Hadrathus) starts at the bottom-left corner of the board. Place the princess token and the shaman's head token in the designated central hut. Various enemy miniatures (Picts and hyenas) are placed across the board in their starting positions as indicated by the scenario. Each hero's character sheet is placed nearby, with crystals allocated to their reserve and fatigue areas. The turn tracker is set to turn 1, and the Overlord's tiles and dice are prepared.
Objective
The primary objective for the heroes is to rescue the princess and retrieve the shaman's head. Once both items are in the possession of a hero, that hero must then exit the board through a designated exit point. The heroes must achieve this objective within 8 turns. If the Overlord player gets to take their turn on turn 8 and the heroes have not successfully exited with both items, the Overlord wins.
On your turn
Each turn begins with the stance phase, where heroes allocate crystals to either an aggressive or cautious stance, affecting their available actions and defense. Heroes then activate in any order, spending crystals to perform actions such as movement, attacks, and special abilities. Movement costs 1 crystal per space, with additional costs for difficult terrain or obstacles. Attacks involve rolling dice based on weapons and abilities, with hits determined by comparing attack power to enemy defense. After all heroes have acted, the Overlord player activates their units, moving and attacking according to their specific rules and the scenario's event deck.
Scoring
Scoring in 'Conan' for this scenario is binary: either the heroes win or the Overlord wins. The heroes achieve victory by successfully moving off the board with both the princess and the shaman's head. The Overlord wins if the heroes fail to meet this objective by the end of turn 8, or if all heroes are defeated before completing their mission.
Game end
The game concludes immediately when one of two conditions is met. The heroes win if a hero carrying both the princess and the shaman's head successfully moves off the board through a designated exit space. The Overlord wins if the heroes have not completed their objective by the end of the Overlord's turn on round 8, or if all hero characters are eliminated from the game.
Tips
Effective strategy for the heroes involves coordinated movement and ability usage. The wizard's teleportation and lightning storm spells are crucial for clearing paths and dealing area damage, as demonstrated by eliminating Picts blocking the exit. Conan's high strength and ability to carry multiple items make him ideal for the extraction phase, even with movement penalties. Shevatas's ranged attacks can soften up enemies before melee engagement. Prioritize eliminating key threats like the giant snake guarding the princess and managing crystal resources carefully to ensure critical actions can be performed when needed.
