Cthulhu: Death May Die

The game setup involves choosing an investigator, a scenario, and an Ancient One. You place the modular board tiles together according to the chosen scenario and populate them with monsters, cultists, clues, and other components as indicated. Each player selects their investigator's starting abilities and receives health and stress tokens, preparing the stage for a desperate battle against cosmic horror.

Your ultimate objective is to investigate the unfolding mystery, stop the cultists' rituals, and ultimately defeat the Ancient One before it can fully manifest. Depending on the specific scenario, you may need to complete certain objectives, gather specific items, or survive long enough to weaken the monstrous entity.

During a player's turn, they may take up to three actions. These actions include moving across the board, attacking enemies using various weapons or abilities, trading items with nearby investigators, and interacting with scenario elements like searching for clues or advancing the plot. Managing actions efficiently is crucial for survival.

While there is no traditional scoring, players gain experience points and discover new abilities by defeating enemies and uncovering secrets. These upgrades are vital for enhancing investigators' combat and investigative capabilities as the game progresses and the threats become increasingly difficult.

The game ends in victory if the investigators manage to defeat the Ancient One after it manifests. Conversely, it ends in defeat if all investigators are eliminated, go completely insane, or if the Ancient One's track reaches its maximum before it is vulnerable to attack, sealing the doom of humanity.
