The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up Cubitos, place the double-sided racetrack board in the middle of the table. Each player receives a player mat with roll, active, and discard zones, along with nine starting dice—seven light gray and two dark gray. Set out the various special ability cards, coin tokens, and credit markers near the board.
Objective
The primary objective in Cubitos is to race your player cube along the track and be the first to cross the finish line. Success requires balancing your engine-building by purchasing better dice with your movement capabilities.
On your turn
Each round consists of a roll phase and a run phase. In the roll phase, players simultaneously roll their dice in the tray, sorting hits into their active zone and choosing whether to push their luck or stop. If you fail to roll any hits while having at least three dice active, you bust and miss your turn. In the run phase, players use their feet symbols to move along the track and spend currency to buy new dice from the market.
Scoring
Points and resources are tracked dynamically on the board. Landing on specific track spaces grants credits, bonuses, or forces you to discard dice. Managing your economy and movement efficiency is key to progression.
Game end
The game triggers its endgame the moment any player's marker crosses the finish line. That player is instantly crowned the winner of the Cubitos race.
Tips
Pay close attention to combo-testing your dice abilities. Buying defensive shielding dice can save you from busts, while specialized character cards like the 'Dope Cat' or 'Bob' can significantly boost your income and movement combos.
