The rules, step by step
Setup
Deal with the Devil requires setting up a central board featuring the resource wheel, interest tracks, and inquisition spaces. Each player receives a personal board, screens to hide secret actions, resource trackers, and initial action discs. Reserve piles for basic and advanced resources, coins, building cards numbered two through five, and event cards are placed nearby. Secret screens contain role-specific screens for mortals, cultists, and the devil.
Objective
The main objective is to accumulate the highest number of victory points across five game rounds. Players must successfully balance production, building construction, and secret deals made through blind trading chests to acquire resources and soul fragments.
On your turn
Every round follows eight structured phases: production of resources via the central wheel, card drafting and event management, secret deals using chests, programming player actions behind screens, collecting interest on debt, adjusting reputation, witch hunting deductions, and resolving inquisition phases.
Scoring
Victory points are awarded at the end of the game for completed buildings, major milestones achieved, angelic wings collected, unused indulgence tokens, and leftover advanced resources or gold. Negative points apply for debt, demonic wings, and unspent soul fragments.
Game end
The game concludes immediately after the completion of the fifth round's inquisition phase. All final scoring categories are calculated, penalties are deducted, and the player with the highest total score is declared the winner.
Tips
Carefully manage your debt to avoid harsh penalties, pay attention to other players' roles during inquisition phases, and time your building construction to maximize action efficiency and score crucial milestones early.
