Setup

Place the board, shuffle treasure/trap cards, set aside relic cards, give each player a chest, explorer, and two decision cards, place explorers on the board, and put rubies/diamonds nearby.

The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up Diamant, first place the main game board in the center of the playing area. Shuffle all the treasure and trap cards together to form the expedition deck, placing it face down next to the board. The relic cards are only used in a variant, so set them aside for your first game. Each player chooses a color and takes a matching chest, an explorer pawn, and two decision cards (one 'continue' and one 'return to camp'). Place all explorer pawns on the starting board. Finally, place all rubies and diamonds in separate piles next to the board as a general supply. The five cave entrance tiles are placed around the main board, using the numbers on their backsides to guide placement.
Objective
The objective of Diamant is to be the player who has collected the most treasure (rubies and diamonds) by the end of the game. Players will explore a cave over five rounds, each round representing a deeper part of the cave. The game involves pushing your luck to gather more gems while trying to avoid traps and securing your findings in your chest.
On your turn
A round begins by flipping the top expedition card and placing it next to the cave entrance to start building the path. All current explorers move onto this new card. There are two types of cards: treasure cards and trap cards. If a treasure card is revealed, take the indicated number of rubies from the supply and distribute them as evenly as possible among all explorers currently in the cave. Any leftover rubies are placed on the treasure card. Players place their collected rubies next to their chest, not inside it yet, as they are not safe until stored. If a trap card is revealed, nothing happens the first time a specific trap type appears. However, if a second identical trap card is revealed in the same round, all explorers still in the cave must immediately return to camp, losing all rubies they collected in that round (those next to their chest).
Scoring
At the end of the game, each player counts the rubies and diamonds safely stored in their chest. Each ruby is worth one point, and each diamond is worth five points. The player with the highest total score wins the game. In case of a tie, the tied players share the victory.
Game end
An expedition round ends in one of two ways: either all remaining players decide to return to camp, or a second identical trap card is revealed, forcing all remaining explorers out of the cave. When a round ends, remove the cave entrance tile corresponding to that round. If there are any rubies left on treasure cards, they are returned to the general supply. If a second trap card ended the round, that specific trap card is removed from the game, and the other identical trap card (if any) is shuffled back into the expedition deck. All other expedition cards from the current round are shuffled to form a new expedition deck for the next round. The game concludes after five rounds, once the last cave entrance tile has been removed.
Tips
In Diamant, careful decision-making is key. You must constantly weigh the risk of encountering a trap against the reward of finding more treasure. Observing which trap cards have already appeared can help you make informed decisions about when to push deeper into the cave and when to retreat to secure your rubies. Remember that rubies are only safe once they are placed in your chest, so don't be too greedy!
