Dorfromantik: The Board Game

To set up the game, first separate the hexagonal tiles into two types: task tiles (with white icons) and landscape tiles (without icons). Shuffle the task tiles and place three face-up in the playing area. Shuffle the landscape tiles and create three face-down stacks. The 25 small square task tokens are placed face-down in a general supply. The campaign boxes (numbered 1-5) are kept aside and will be opened as specific campaign goals are met, introducing new rules and components. For the first game, only the basic components are used.

The objective of Dorfromantik: The Board Game is a cooperative one: players work together to create the most beautiful and harmonious landscape possible. This is achieved by strategically placing landscape tiles to fulfill various tasks and objectives. The ultimate goal is to score as many points as possible as a team, which is recorded on a campaign sheet to track progress across multiple games. Successfully completing tasks and creating large, enclosed areas with specific features are key to maximizing your score.

On a player's turn, they first draw one landscape tile from any of the three face-down stacks. The player then places this tile adjacent to any already placed tile on the table. Tiles must be placed so that matching landscape features (forests, fields, villages, rivers, train tracks) connect where possible. If placing a tile completes a task (e.g., connecting a certain number of forest tiles to a forest task), a task token is placed on that completed task tile. If a task cannot be completed or a tile cannot be placed according to the rules, the tile is discarded, and a task token might be lost.

Scoring occurs at the end of the game. Points are awarded for each completed task, with each task token on a completed task tile counting as one point. Additionally, bonus points are given for the longest continuous train track and the longest continuous river on the board. Any fully enclosed areas (forests, fields, or villages) that contain a flag token will also award points based on the number of tiles within that enclosed area. The total score is then recorded on the campaign sheet to track the team's performance.

The game concludes when all landscape tiles have been drawn and placed. At this point, players proceed to the scoring phase to calculate their final collective score based on completed tasks, longest features, and enclosed areas. The total score is then recorded on the campaign sheet, which may lead to unlocking new campaign boxes and components for future games, depending on the score achieved.
