Setup

Place the game board, gold tokens, and spell cards; each player gets a character pawn, three gold, and the starting player token.

The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up the game, place the game board in the center of the playing area. The board has a central starting zone, a treasure zone (orange), and an exit zone (blue). Each player chooses a character pawn and places it in the central starting zone. Give each player three gold pieces. Shuffle the spell cards and place them face-up in a row, one card per player (up to a maximum of five cards). The player who last played D&D gets the starting player token.
Objective
The main objective of Dungeons & Dragons: Rock Paper Wizard is to be the first player to accumulate 25 gold pieces. Players will cast spells to move their pawns strategically on the board, aiming to be in the best positions to collect treasure.
On your turn
Each round, players secretly choose one of the available spell cards from the row and decide which player or object they want to target. On the count of 'Rock, Paper, Wizard!', all players simultaneously reveal their chosen spell gesture and point to their target. Starting with the player holding the starting player token and proceeding clockwise, each player resolves their chosen spell's effect. Spells can move players, steal gold, or have other effects. After all spells are resolved, the starting player token passes to the next player.
Scoring
After all spells for the round have been resolved, players check their positions on the game board. The player whose pawn is closest to the dragon's lair (the orange zone) earns 5 gold pieces. If there are multiple players tied for the closest position, they all receive 5 gold. The player(s) in the second closest position to the dragon's lair receive 3 gold pieces. Players in the exit zone (blue) move one space towards the center, and players in the treasure zone (orange) move one space towards the center due to the dragon's heat.
Game end
The game concludes immediately at the end of any round in which at least one player has accumulated 25 or more gold pieces. The player with the highest total amount of gold at this point is declared the winner. In case of a tie, the tied player who is closest to the dragon's lair on the game board wins.
Tips
A unique rule in this game involves magical collisions: if two players simultaneously cast the same spell at each other (targeting each other with identical spells), a magical explosion occurs. Instead of resolving their chosen spells, both players involved in the collision draw the top card from the spell deck. They look at this card in secret and resolve its effect during their turn. This introduces an element of chaos and unpredictability, as the drawn spell might be beneficial or detrimental to the player, adding a layer of strategic bluffing and risk-taking to the game.
