The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up Egizia, place the main game board in the center of the table. Each player chooses a color and receives 8 boats, 24 stone blocks, 4 construction team tokens, and a personal player board. Place one of each player's stone markers on the '0' space of the score track, the first space of the stone market, and the first space of the grain market. The Joker construction team token is placed on space '2' of the individual player board, and the other three construction team tokens are stacked on space '1'. Players receive starting grain and quarry cards. Shuffle the Sphinx cards and place them face down on their designated spot. Separate and shuffle the three action card decks (1/2, 3/4, 5) and place them next to the board. Place the flood marker on the central irrigation space. Shuffle the 28 tomb tiles face down, place 12 on the board, and flip the first 4 face up. Place the 4 scarab tokens near the board for tracking scores over 50 points.

On your turn
The game is played over five rounds. At the start of each round, 10 Nile cards from the current round's deck are drawn and placed face up along the Nile, starting from Ombos. Players, in turn order, place one of their boats on an available Nile card or a round space. Boats must always be placed downstream, unless a special card allows otherwise. Placing a boat on a Nile card grants the card's immediate or permanent effect, such as gaining grain fields or modifying market prices. Placing a boat on a round space activates its effect, which can involve moving construction teams, gaining stones, or influencing the flood marker. Once all players have placed their boats or passed, the feeding phase begins, followed by resource production and construction phases.
Scoring
Scoring occurs throughout the game and at the end. During the game, players score points for constructing parts of the Obelisk, Temple, and Pyramid, with higher levels yielding more points. Tomb construction also grants points based on the tomb's value. At the end of each round, players must feed their construction teams; failure to do so results in negative points based on their position on the grain market. At the end of the game, players convert any remaining stone into victory points. Points are awarded for the total value of collected tomb tiles, based on a tiered system. Players also reveal their Sphinx cards and score points for fulfilling the conditions listed on them, such as having a certain number of stones in a monument or specific permanent cards. Finally, points are awarded for the number of boats placed on each construction site (Sphinx, Obelisk, Tombs, Temple, Pyramid), with more boats leading to higher points.
Game end
The game concludes after the fifth round. Following the final construction phase of the fifth round, a comprehensive final scoring takes place. Players first convert any remaining stone resources into victory points. Then, they sum the values of all tomb tiles they have collected and score additional points based on the total value. Next, players reveal their Sphinx cards and score points for each objective they have successfully met. Finally, players earn points based on the number of their boats present at each of the three construction sites (Sphinx, Obelisk/Tombs, Temple/Pyramid). The player with the highest total victory points from all sources is declared the winner. In case of a tie, the player with the most remaining stone wins.
Tips
To excel in Egizia, prioritize efficient resource management, especially grain for feeding your construction teams and stone for building. Carefully consider the order of boat placement, as moving downstream is mandatory, and earlier spots offer more choices. Pay attention to the market prices for stone and grain, and use actions to manipulate them to your advantage. Don't neglect the Sphinx cards; they can provide significant end-game points, so plan your construction and resource gathering to meet their objectives. Balancing immediate gains from Nile cards with long-term benefits from monument construction is crucial for victory.
