Each player starts the game with 5 card in their hands, and after a card is played a new one is drawn from the pile.

Every turn each player plays a card in the table. The player with the maximum points in their card wins the round and get all the cards in the round. In case of a tie, the player who first played the card wins.

When there are no enough cards for all the players in the draw pile, the rest of the cards in their hand are played and the battle finishes. The played with the highest number of points (not cards) wins the battle.

When 3 battles (or 2 consecutive ones) are won, the player gets the "Gran Cruz al Mérito de la Guerra" Medal and wins the game.

Players can play individually, in pairs or even in asymmetrical mode. In this last case, the player playing alone draw cards in a different fashion: he can have a look at the two card on the top and get the one desired (the the one one returns to the top of the pile).

If a player wins a round and the gets the "Jefe de todos los ejércitos" (12 points) card and the 2 "General" (10 points each) cards he wins the battle. In the case that he additionally has a Cruz Roja (Red cross, 10 points) card and a plane (9 points) card, he wins the battle and the rest of the players discount one won battle from their merits. In the case that none of the other players had a previous won battle the winner obtains 2 battles and thus, get the "Gran Cruz al Mérito de la Guerra" card, winning the game.
