The rules, step by step
Setup
Escape Plan is played on a large central board representing the city, accompanied by individual player boards, hidden escape plan cards, contact cards, and starting funds. Players place various city, business, and police tiles according to the randomized setup rules, ensuring a fresh layout every game.
Objective
Players take on the roles of bank robbers who have hidden their loot around the city. The primary objective is to recover as much of your stashed money as possible, manage your police notoriety, and successfully escape the city through one of the open exits before the 72-hour police lockdown.
On your turn
Each round is divided into phases including income collection, patrol updates, tile placement, and player actions. On your turn, you spend action points to move across city tiles, visit businesses to acquire equipment and contact cards, manage police interactions, and stash or retrieve cash.
Scoring
At the end of the game, players tally their final scores based on the total cash successfully brought out of the city, points earned from collected contact cards, asset tiles, and bonuses. Deductions are applied for remaining police notoriety and untreated wounds.
Game end
The game concludes at the end of the third day. Players must reach an open exit tile, pay any required exit fees, and have sufficient cash to survive. If you fail to escape before the game ends or cannot pay the exit costs, you lose automatically.
Tips
Managing your notoriety track is critical, as high notoriety penalizes you heavily at game end. Balance exploring the city for your stashed cash with acquiring useful equipment and contact cards to mitigate police interference.
