Setup

Place hex map tiles, character boards, and components, with some northern and central tiles hidden and marked with map tokens. Automa mechs also get starting positions on the board.

The rules, step by step

Setup
Setting up Expeditions involves arranging the hexagonal map tiles in a specific pattern, with southern tiles face-up and central and northern tiles face-down bearing map tokens and corruption. Each player selects a character and companion card, setting up their mech board with action cubes and starting resources. The Automa opponent is prepared with its own decision deck, tracker cube, and two black and blue mechs placed on designated starting hexes. Glory tokens, workers, corruption bags, and various card decks are laid out nearby for easy access during play.
Objective
The main objective of Expeditions is to guide your hero and mech into the Siberian wilderness, investigating the mysterious meteorite crash. Players strive to uncover lost map locations, complete narrative quests, vanquish corruption, and upgrade their equipment. Ultimately, the goal is to amass the highest amount of glory by placing all four of your glory tokens onto the glory track through various achievements and feats.
On your turn
During a player's turn, they must first slide their action cube to a new section of their player board, ensuring they do not repeat the previous action. They then execute up to three primary actions in any order: Move their mech across hexes, Play cards from their hand into their active area, and Gather resources, workers, or map tokens from their current location. Each character and companion offers unique abilities that can be activated using specific worker colors, allowing for efficient combos and quest progression.
Scoring
At the end of the game, players tally their final score based on several categories. Points are awarded for each placed glory token, the number of map tokens and corruption tokens collected or vanquished, and the coin value of any upgraded item and quest cards. Automa scoring follows a specific formula based on its remaining glory tokens, map tokens, and corruption tokens gathered during solo play.
Game end
The game is triggered to end the moment any player or the Automa successfully places their fourth and final glory token onto the glory track. Once this threshold is reached, the current round is completed so all players have an equal number of turns before final scoring commences.
Tips
To succeed in solo play against the Automa, prioritize gathering workers early to maximize your action economy and card activations. Keep a close eye on the Automa's movement and glory track progress, as it advances quickly and can trigger the end-game conditions faster than expected if left unchecked.
