Setup
Each player starts with a Defuse card and 7 other cards; the Exploding Kittens are shuffled into the deck.
The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up the game, each player receives one Defuse card and seven other cards from the shuffled deck. The Exploding Kitten cards (one less than the number of players) are then shuffled back into the main deck. Players keep their hands secret.
Objective
The main objective of Exploding Kittens is to be the last player left in the game. This is achieved by avoiding drawing an Exploding Kitten card, or by defusing it if drawn.
On your turn
On a player's turn, they can play any number of action cards from their hand, or none at all. After playing cards (or choosing not to), the player must draw one card from the top of the main deck. If the drawn card is an Exploding Kitten, and the player does not have a Defuse card, they are eliminated from the game.
Scoring
Exploding Kittens is a game of elimination, not scoring. There are no points or scores to keep track of; the sole focus is on being the last player to survive.
Game end
The game concludes when all but one player have been eliminated by drawing an Exploding Kitten card without a Defuse. The last player remaining is the winner.
Tips
Action cards like 'Skip' allow you to end your turn without drawing, 'Shuffle' rearranges the deck, 'See the Future' lets you peek at the top cards, 'Attack' forces the next player to take multiple turns, 'Nope' cancels another player's action, and 'Favor' makes another player give you a card. Playing two identical non-action cards allows you to steal a random card from another player, while playing three identical non-action cards lets you demand a specific card from any player.
