(From Kickstarter Update #36:)

Many of you have asked about the Cult Cards that come with the Kickstarter edition and how they should be used in games of Fate of the Elder Gods. The Cult Cards are meant to be supplemental powers for your Cults during the game.

During set-up, all players must agree to use the Cult Cards. Beginning with the player who will take the last turn and proceeding in reverse turn order, each player will choose whether to use the Cult Card associated with their particular Elder God or choose one of the general, unaffiliated Cult Cards. During the game, players may activate their Cult abilities at any appropriate time as stated on the card. This ability does not have to be activated by The Ceremony like an Elder God’s Dark Gift.

[...] We also recommend that you do not include Cult Cards or the Beasts From Beyond expansion in your first games of Fate of the Elder Gods. There are plenty of awesome things to do and explore in just the base game. Once you all know the ropes, you’ll be ready to tackle the extra challenges!
