Gentes

In Gentes, set up the central board featuring action spaces, regional city maps, and achievement tracks. Shuffle the civilization cards into decks for each of the three historical eras, and lay out the initial market row of cards. Each player receives a personal player board, a set of action tiles, sand timer tokens representing time, and a supply of people cubes and meeple tokens. Set aside coins and first-player markers to begin play.

The main objective of Gentes is to successfully guide your civilization through history over three eras, spanning six rounds total. You must strategically acquire civilization cards, train different classes of people, build cities across regions, and race for achievements to accumulate the highest total of victory points by the end of the final era.

During a round, players take turns selecting action tiles from the central board. Each action tile requires you to spend coins and place sand timers onto your player board to represent time passing. Actions include drawing or placing civilization cards into your tableau, founding cities on the regional map, and training various people types. Once time runs out or you cannot take further actions, you pass to the night phase for cleanup, resource collection, and removing sand timers.

Victory points are scored continually throughout the game via card synergies, building cities, meeting achievement criteria, and fulfilling specific card abilities. Additional points are awarded during end-game scoring based on remaining money, leftover resources, and unplayed cards, offset by any penalties from accumulated sand timers.

The game concludes automatically at the end of the sixth round, which marks the completion of the third era. After all final cleanup and night phase actions are resolved, players tally their final scores from cards, achievements, and bonuses to determine the winning civilization.
