Setup
Place the board, distribute energy dispensers, arrange cards by levels, and hand each player a player board and starting energy ring.
The rules, step by step
Setup
Set up Gizmos by placing the energy dispenser filled with marbles centrally on the table. Shuffle and stack the three levels of Gizmo cards in the middle, then deal rows of cards face-up next to each stack. Each player takes a player board containing six action zones, an energy storage ring, and draws a starting Level 1 card which is placed into their archival zone. Determine the first player and ready the victory point tokens nearby.
Objective
The main objective in Gizmos is to build a complex, highly efficient engine of inventions. Players act as scientists preparing for a great science fair, constructing various mechanical devices—or gizmos—that interact with one another to produce resources, manipulate energy, and ultimately generate the most victory points.
On your turn
During a player's turn, they must select and perform exactly one of four core actions available on their player board: Archive a card from the market for later, Pick an energy marble from the energy ring, Build a gizmo from their archive or the market by paying its energy cost, or Research cards from the deck to inspect and select one. Many of these actions trigger built gizmos that can produce chain reactions.
Scoring
Players accumulate victory points continuously through the gizmos they construct and the victory point tokens they earn via card effects or upgrades. At the end of the game, all points from built gizmos and collected tokens are tallied together to determine the winner.
Game end
The game triggers its conclusion when any player constructs their fourth level-three gizmo or their sixteenth total gizmo. Once triggered, the current round is finished so every player has an equal number of turns before final scoring takes place.
Tips
To maximize your score, focus on creating combos where performing a single action triggers multiple gizmos simultaneously. Pay close attention to the trigger symbols on your built inventions and constantly inspect the energy row to optimize your resource management.
