The main objective of Gold West is to acquire wealth through resource collection and strategic expansion across the California territory. Players compete to build camps and settlements, secure valuable cards, and maximize their scoring potential before the game ends.

To set up Gold West, place the main board in the center of the table. Provide each player with a personal board, setting up the required track markers, and organize the resource tokens, cards, and metal bars near the board for easy access during gameplay.

Each turn follows a strict sequence of steps: first, activate your supply track to gather available resources; second, spend metals to buy cards or influence; and finally, build camps, settlements, or steal resources as permitted by the rules.

Scoring happens at the end of the game and includes points for your largest enclosed building group, successful boomtown investments, and your final position on the influence track, rewarding strategic planning and resource efficiency.

The game concludes immediately when the last camp token is placed on any player's board, signifying that all players have completed their final turns and it is time to tally the final scores.
