Great Western Trail

To set up Great Western Trail, lay out the main board in the center of the table and place the neutral buildings and hazards in their designated spaces along the path. Each player receives a player board, a set of building tiles, a train piece, a meeple, cattle cards, and starting money. Public and secret objective cards are distributed, and player markers are placed on the track in Kansas City and the locomotive track.

The main objective of Great Western Trail is to become the most successful rancher by driving cattle from Texas up to Kansas City. Players earn victory points by delivering increasingly valuable cattle, constructing personal buildings along the trail, upgrading their train, hiring specialized workers, and completing objective cards.

On your turn, you move your meeple forward along the trail up to a number of spaces dictated by your player board and worker bonuses. Upon stopping at a building, hazard, or opponent's tile, you must pay any required fees and then execute the printed actions. These actions include hiring workers, buying new cow cards, building structures, or advancing your locomotive.

Final scoring evaluates multiple areas: accumulated cash, points from built personal buildings, station master tiles, collected hazards, unique cow cards in your deck, completed objective cards, and end-game bonuses. The player with the highest total score wins the game.

The game conclusion is triggered when the final worker token is pushed off the hiring board. Once the marker reaches the end of the board, the current round finishes and every other player takes one final turn before final scoring.
