Setup
Each player receives a set of 11 money cards, which they hold in their hand. A deck of status cards, including positive and negative point cards, is shuffled and placed face-down in the center of the table. The player who shuffled the deck starts the game.
Objective
Players take on the roles of cultural elites, competing to assert their status and earn prestige. The objective is to collect the highest total value of status cards by the end of the game, while also having the most money remaining in hand. The player with the least money at the end is immediately eliminated from winning.
On your turn
Each round begins with flipping the top card of the status deck. Players then bid on this card. To bid, a player places one or more money cards face-up in front of them. Subsequent bids must be higher than the previous one, and players can only increase their current bid by adding more money cards. If a player decides to pass, they take all their previously bid money cards back into their hand but cannot bid again for that status card. The turn moves to the player on the left.
Scoring
Most status cards award positive points. However, there are special cards: 'Faux Pas' cards require the player who acquires them to discard one of their previously collected luxury cards (or the next one they acquire if they have none). 'Passe' cards reduce a player's final status by 5 points. 'Scandale' cards halve a player's total status points at the end of the game. Conversely, some cards with a dark green background (like 'Bod Vivadt' or 'Avadt Garde') double a player's status points.
Game end
The game ends immediately when the fourth card with a dark green background is revealed from the status deck, with no bidding for that final card. After all players have revealed their remaining money cards, the player with the least money is cast out and cannot win the game. Among the remaining players, everyone tallies their status points, applying any multipliers or reductions from special cards. The player with the highest total status points wins. In case of a tie in status points, the player with the most money remaining wins.
