To set up Hitster, first download the free Hitster app and ensure you have Spotify installed on your phone. Shuffle the deck of song cards and deal two cards face-up to each player, forming the beginning and end of their personal timeline. These initial cards establish the chronological boundaries for placing subsequent songs.

On your turn
On your turn, you will draw a new song card and scan its QR code using the Hitster app. The app will then play a snippet of the song. Listen carefully to the music and try to guess its release year. You must then place the card face-down on your timeline, indicating where you believe it chronologically fits among your existing cards.
Scoring
After placing your card, flip it over to reveal the actual release year. If the song is correctly placed in chronological order within your timeline, it stays there, and you earn a point. If it's incorrectly placed, the card is discarded, and you do not earn a point. The goal is to build a continuous, correctly ordered timeline.
Game end
The game concludes as soon as any player successfully accumulates 10 song cards on their timeline, all correctly arranged in chronological order. That player is then declared the winner of Hitster.
