The main objective remains expanding your empire, utilizing your clan's unique strategies (such as negotiation for Saikoro or port management and storage/docking optimization for Yumeneko) to outperform opponents and secure victory.

To set up the expansion, start by shuffling the new nearby and distant island cards into their respective decks. Next, select one of the new clans — either the Saikoro clan or the Yumeneko clan — and prepare their corresponding cards, ship tokens, and score markers.

A turn follows the base game structure, but Yumeneko clan players experience an expanded phase order featuring a Storage phase followed by a Docking phase. During Storage, players resolve card storage texts; during Docking, they resolve docking keywords, acquire resources from island cards, and handle transport actions.

Players score victory points by completing card effects, fulfilling storage conditions, conquering islands, and utilizing specific building bonuses throughout the game rounds.

The game ends according to the standard triggers and round limits of Imperial Settlers: Empires of the North.

When playing with the Yumeneko clan, carefully manage goods storage limits and timing on docking phases. Remember that resource exchanges with opponents forbid trading identical resource types.
