The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up Imperial Settlers: Roll & Write, give each player an empire sheet, a pencil, and a standard village sheet. Shuffle all favor tokens, draw a number equal to the player count plus one, and place them face up in the center along with the four resource and worker dice. Randomly determine an active player to begin the first round.
Objective
The main objective is to build a prosperous empire and earn the most victory points over ten rounds of play. Players accomplish this by constructing village buildings, expanding their empire tracks, harvesting resources, and creating profitable settlements.
On your turn
Each round consists of four phases. First, the active player rolls all four dice. Second, in clockwise order, players choose and take one favor token from the center. Third, during the expand your empire phase, players spend a number of actions equal to the worker die value to cross off boxes on their village and empire sheets, using rolled resources like wood, stone, food, and wild gold. Finally, the round ends by advancing the round tracker and returning favor tokens.
Scoring
Final scoring occurs after the tenth round. Players sum up victory points from the furthest completed sections of their four main empire tracks, special building sets like the fortress, points earned from export favor tokens, and any advanced settlement shapes or architect bonuses.
Game end
The game concludes automatically at the conclusion of the tenth round. Players tally their final scores, and the player with the most points wins. Ties are broken by comparing completed bridge rows, harvested field spaces, and finally shared victory if players remain tied.
Tips
Plan your resource management carefully to avoid wasting actions. Use unlocked fields and harvest actions strategically to gather resources without relying solely on dice rolls. In advanced modes, aim to shape specific building patterns early to boost your abilities and score massive endgame points.
