How do you play Inkognito?
The objective of Incognito is to cleverly hide a secret object within a specific location by drawing it on your board. The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up the game, each player receives one drawing board, one marker, and a set of six voting cards of a single color. The six number tokens (1-6) are placed in a line in the middle of the playing area in ascending order. The object cards are shuffled, and one is dealt face-down to each player, who can secretly look at it. The location cards are also shuffled, and one is dealt face-up to each player, placed in front of them so all players can see it.
Objective
The objective of Incognito is to cleverly hide a secret object within a specific location by drawing it on your board. You want to draw your object well enough that at least one other player can identify it, but not so well that every other player guesses it. Successfully achieving this balance will earn you points, and the player with the most points after three rounds wins the game.
On your turn
Each round consists of four phases: hiding the object, finding the object, scoring points, and preparing for the next round. In the 'hiding the object' phase, players secretly draw their assigned object onto their drawing board, incorporating it into the location card they received. Once all but one player have finished drawing, a countdown from five to zero begins. The last player must stop drawing when the countdown reaches zero. In the 'finding the object' phase, all object cards (including any extra ones needed to make six) are shuffled and placed face-up next to the numbered tokens. Players then try to identify the hidden object in each drawing (excluding their own).
Scoring
When a player believes they have identified an object hidden in another player's drawing, they place one of their voting cards face-down next to the object card corresponding to their guess. Once all but one player have voted, a countdown from five to zero begins, forcing the last player to place all their remaining voting cards, even if randomly. After all votes are placed, all voting cards are revealed. Each player who correctly guessed an object hidden by another player receives 1 point. The artist of a drawing receives 2 points if at least one player successfully guessed their object and at least one player failed to guess it. An artist receives no points if their object was guessed by everyone or by no one.
Game end
The game concludes after three full rounds of play. At this point, all players tally their total accumulated points from the three rounds. The player who has the highest total score is declared the winner of Incognito. In the event of a tie between two or more players for the highest score, all tied players share the victory.
Tips
To maximize your score, aim for a drawing that is neither too obvious nor too obscure. A drawing that is too clear might be guessed by everyone, earning you no points as the artist. Conversely, a drawing that is too abstract might not be guessed by anyone, also resulting in zero points for you. Strive for a balance that allows some players to guess correctly while others miss, ensuring you get those valuable 2 artist points. Pay attention to other players' drawing styles and adjust your guessing strategy accordingly.
