Setup

Place three camel cards face up between players, shuffle the remaining cards to form a draw pile, deal five cards to each player, and then fill the market with two cards from the draw pile, sorting goods and bonus tokens by type and placing them within reach.

The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up the game, first place three camel cards face up between the players to form the initial market. Shuffle the remaining cards to create the draw pile and deal five cards to each player. Then, replenish the market by drawing two cards from the draw pile and placing them face up next to the camel cards. It doesn't matter if these drawn cards are also camels. Players then remove any camel cards from their hand and place them face up in front of them to form their personal camel herd. Sort the goods tokens by type (gold, silver, diamonds, leather, spices, cloth) and arrange them in descending order of value. Create separate stacks for each type of bonus token (3, 4, and 5 cards sold) and place them face down. Place the single camel token and the three Seals of Excellence within reach of both players. Finally, randomly choose a starting player.
Objective
The objective of Jaipur is to become the personal merchant of the Maharaja. You achieve this by accumulating more wealth than your opponent at the end of each round. The ultimate goal is to be the first player to collect two Seals of Excellence, which are awarded to the wealthiest merchant at the end of each round.
On your turn
On your turn, you have two main options: either take cards or sell cards. You cannot do both in a single turn. If you choose to take cards, you have three sub-options: take a single good card from the market and immediately replace it with the top card from the draw pile; take multiple good cards (which can be different types) from the market by exchanging an equal number of cards from your hand (these can be camels, goods, or a combination); or take all the camel cards from the market and add them to your herd, then replenish the market with new cards from the draw pile. Players are not required to disclose the number of camel cards they hold. Remember that you cannot have more than seven cards in your hand at the end of your turn, excluding camels.
Scoring
A round ends immediately when three types of goods tokens are depleted, or when there are not enough cards in the draw pile to replenish the market. To calculate the score for the round, first, the player with the most camels in their herd receives the camel token, which is worth five rupees. If both players have the same number of camels, neither player receives the token. Then, players turn over all their collected goods and bonus tokens and sum their values. The player with the highest total value is declared the wealthiest merchant and receives one Seal of Excellence. In case of a tie in total value, the player with the most bonus tokens wins the Seal. If still tied, the player with the most goods tokens wins the Seal.
Game end
The game continues in rounds until one player obtains two Seals of Excellence. As soon as a player achieves this, the game ends, and that player is declared the winner and the personal merchant of the Maharaja. If no player has two Seals of Excellence after a round, the game is reset for another round, and the player who lost the previous round starts the new one.
Tips
Camels, while not having a direct rupee value, are incredibly useful for making exchanges, especially when you want to acquire multiple valuable goods from the market. Strategically collecting and using camels can give you a significant advantage. Also, remember that when selling goods, you can only sell one type of good per turn. However, selling three or more cards of the same type earns you a bonus token, and selling five or more earns an even larger bonus, so aim for larger sales when possible. The value of bonus tokens is only revealed when they are drawn, adding an element of surprise and risk.
