The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up Karak, place the starting tile in the center of the playing area. Shuffle all catacomb tiles and divide them into two face-down stacks next to the starting tile. Each player receives an inventory board and five life tokens, which they place in the designated heart compartments on their board. Players then choose a hero figure and their corresponding hero card. Place the chosen hero figures on the starting tile. Finally, determine the first player by rolling dice or by mutual agreement.
Objective
The objective of Karak is to explore the catacombs of Karak Castle, defeat various monsters, and collect as much treasure as possible. Players gain bonuses throughout the game by defeating monsters and opening treasure chests, which provide advantages in combat or movement. At the end of the game, the player who has accumulated the most treasure, measured in points, will be declared the winner.
On your turn
Karak is played over several turns, starting with the first player and proceeding clockwise. On a player's turn, they can move their hero figure up to four tiles. Movement can lead to three situations: moving into an undiscovered area, encountering a monster, or moving into an already known area. When moving into an undiscovered area, the player draws a new catacomb tile and places it adjacent to their current tile, ensuring path continuity. If the new tile is a corridor, nothing special happens. If it's a room, the player draws a token from the bag. This token can be a treasure chest (which can be opened with a key) or a monster (which must be fought). If the new tile is a portal, it can be used for teleportation later. If it's a healing fountain, the player can choose to heal or continue moving. When moving into a known area, the player is limited to four moves per turn. If a monster is present, a fight occurs. If the player wishes to pick up a reward, open a chest, or heal at a fountain, their turn ends immediately on that tile.
Scoring
At the end of the game, all collected treasures are converted into points. A normal treasure chest is worth 1 point. The Dragon's treasure, obtained by defeating the most powerful monster, is worth 1.5 points. The player with the highest total treasure points wins the game.
Game end
The game of Karak concludes immediately when one of the players successfully defeats the Dragon, which is the most powerful monster in the game. Upon defeating the Dragon, that player receives the Dragon's treasure. However, acquiring the Dragon's treasure does not automatically guarantee victory. All players then count their accumulated treasure points, and the player with the highest score wins.
Tips
Monsters and treasures are only revealed when a player enters a newly discovered room tile. Weapons and magical spells (scrolls) can be used to increase a hero's total attack power during combat. Keys are essential for opening locked treasure chests. Healing fountains are crucial for restoring lost life tokens and can also remove the curse inflicted by mummies. When a mummy is defeated, one player is cursed, preventing them from using their hero's unique ability until the curse is removed by a healing fountain or passed on to another player if another mummy is defeated.
