The last, and most famous Jacobite Rebellion is about to commence.
This Limits of Glory game recreates the events at both the beginning and the end of the Rebellion in two separate scenarios. Players take the role of either the Jacobites commanded by Bonnie Prince Charlie or the forces of the British government determined to crush the rebellion.
The first scenario ‘Raising the Standard’ covers the attempt of the Jacobites to secure Scotland and make a breakout into England in an attempt to seize the Crown. The Jacobite player must raise sufficient clans to join the Rebellion against the poor quality Government troops that garrisoned Scotland? The government player must rally his forces and hope General Wade, based in Newcastle, will come to help?
The second Scenario ‘Back over the Water’ covers the retreat into Scotland with the Jacobites attempting to secure the flame of rebellion with sufficient strength to overthrow the government forces under the Hanoverian king. However, most important of all, is to ensure Prince Charlie survives to fight another day. The Jacobites face a far more professional government force under the command of the king's brother, the ruthless Duke of Cumberland.
Events are driven by the unique Limits of Glory Event Clock and the asymmetric combat is determined using the same combat table system used in all Limits of Glory games.
The Limits of Glory series examines the effect of 'skill and luck' on the commanders present in a campaign. A Glory rating is attributed to all the significant participants in the campaign, made up from the skill they exhibited and the luck from which they benefited. Players must make difficult decisions as to when to use their commander's Glory to mitigate the situation on the board or in combat to their advantage by attempting to change unfavourable events or exploit any crisis as the campaign unfolds.
