Setup
To set up Love Letter: Premium Edition, shuffle the complete deck of character cards and remove one card from the game face down so nobody sees it. Deal one card to each player to form their starting hand. Place the remaining deck in the center of the table alongside the affection tokens and reference cards, ready for play.
Objective
The main objective of each round in Love Letter is to deliver your love letter to the Princess while keeping her safe from rivals. You achieve this either by eliminating all other players through card deductions and attacks, or by holding the highest-ranking character card when the entire deck runs out.
On your turn
On your turn, draw the top card from the deck so that you have two cards in hand. Choose one of those two cards to play face up in front of you, and follow the instructions printed on it. Its ability takes effect immediately, after which play passes to the next player in a clockwise direction.
Scoring
Players earn affection tokens shaped like hearts whenever they win a round. Winning happens either by being the sole survivor after everyone else is eliminated, or by revealing the highest-value card in hand when the deck is fully depleted. Accumulating enough heart tokens wins the entire game.
Game end
A round ends immediately when only one player remains in contention or when the draw deck runs out of cards. The game itself concludes at the end of a round once a specific number of heart tokens—determined by the player count—has been secured by a single player.
Tips
Keep track of which cards have been discarded into the pile to calculate probabilities. Use the Handmaid card defensively to protect yourself from targeting effects, and use the Guard strategically to eliminate suspected high-value opponents when you have reliable information.
