Lusitania XXI

To set up Lusitania XXI, first, separate the Virtus and Laurus expansion cards from the main deck and set them aside for later. Each player receives one commander card; if playing with fewer than four players, remove any extra commander cards, but ensure the Julius Caesar card is always part of the set. Place one training card face-up in the middle of the table, followed by four additional cards from the main deck, also face-up, arranged so all players can reach them. Finally, each player draws three more cards from the main deck to form their starting hand, and their chosen commander card is placed face-up in front of them, leaving space for eight cards to be played next to it.

The primary objective in Lusitania XXI is to accumulate the highest number of victory points by the end of the game. Players achieve this by strategically collecting sets of cards, utilizing the unique abilities of their commander, and making efficient use of the cards available in the central display and their hand. The game rewards careful planning and adaptation to the evolving card market.

A player's turn consists of one of two actions: either playing a card from their hand to the central display or activating a special ability. When playing a card, it is added to the display, potentially completing sets or triggering effects. Special abilities, often tied to commander cards or specific card combinations, allow players to manipulate cards on the table, draw new cards, or gain other advantages. The choice of action is crucial for building your strategy and responding to opponents.

Scoring in Lusitania XXI occurs at the conclusion of the game. Players earn victory points primarily from the sets of cards they have collected throughout the game. Different types of cards and combinations may yield varying point values. Additionally, certain commander abilities or completed objectives might provide bonus points. Players should aim to maximize their set collections while also considering the immediate tactical advantages offered by individual cards.

Lusitania XXI concludes when one of two conditions is met: either the main deck of cards is completely exhausted, or a player successfully completes a predetermined number of card sets, as specified in the rulebook for the number of players. Once an end-game condition is triggered, players proceed to the final scoring phase to determine the winner.
