Magic: The Gathering – Arena of the Planeswalkers

In the Magic: The Gathering – Arena of the Planeswalkers, players customize the battlefield by designing the map then placing terrain and powerful glyphs. Then players choose one of five different Planeswalkers and move their figure and unique creature squads around the map in a race to out-maneuver opponents and gain tactical advantages!

Magic: The Gathering – Arena of the Planeswalkers is a light-weight, dice-rolling, tactical combat game. You set up a scenario with mostly cardboard terrain and a few raised plastic pieces. Then you choose a Planeswalker who is accompanied by two squads of creatures. There is an oversized card detailing the abilities for each squad and the Planeswalker, and a deck of spells and enchantments as well.

The turn order is simple. Draw a card. Choose your Planeswalker or a squad, and place enchantment cards on them if desired. If you choose your Planeswalker, you will also be able to summon in a squad of creatures. Then move, attack (with dice rolls), play more spell cards, and move on to the next player.

Combat is pretty simple, using custom dice with swords hitting and shields defending. Cards do all sorts of interesting things like bringing units back from the dead, healing up, or adding attack and defense. The scenario you play dictates game end, but it is usually when the opposing Planeswalker is killed.
