Setup

Place 16 large tiles on the main board, 5 purple and 5 one-point tiles on the City Hall board, and each player chooses a player board and a starting card, then shuffle and reveal 6 cards next to the main board.

The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up the game, place the main Majolica board in the center of the playing area. Randomly place the 16 large tiles, face up, onto the 4x4 grid on the main board. Place the City Hall board above the main board. Place the 5 purple bonus tiles and the 5 one-point tiles onto their designated spaces on the City Hall board. Each player chooses a player board and a starting design card (marked with '3' on the back) and places it in one of the dedicated slots on their player board. Shuffle the remaining design cards and reveal six of them face up next to the main board. The first player is chosen randomly and receives the 'Start Player' token.
Objective
The objective of Majolica is to collect and complete design cards by matching specific tile patterns. Players earn points for completed design cards, as well as for tiles on incomplete cards and any one-point tiles they collect. The player who accumulates the most victory points by the end of the game is declared the winner.
On your turn
A turn consists of two main parts: selecting tiles and placing them in your workshops, and then activating workshops. When selecting tiles, you must choose a continuous row or column of large tiles from the exterior of the main board, or a single tile from the exterior and any face-up design card. If you take a face-up design card, its spot is not immediately refilled. Alternatively, you can take any exterior tile and rearrange any design card on your player board. When taking large tiles, you also collect their corresponding small tiles. These small tiles must all be placed into a single workshop on your player board. If a workshop is full, you can still place tiles there, discarding any excess. If you choose to rearrange cards, you can move any design card along with its tiles to another empty slot on your player board.
Scoring
At the end of the game, players calculate their total score. Each completed design card awards the points indicated on the card. For any incomplete design cards, players receive one victory point for every two tiles placed on them. Additionally, each one-point tile collected throughout the game is worth one victory point. The player with the highest total score wins the game.
Game end
The game concludes at the end of a round in which at least one player has completed five or more design cards. After this condition is met, the current round is finished, and then all players proceed to final scoring. If there is a tie in points, the player whose turn was later in the final round wins. If there is still a tie, the tied players share the victory.
Tips
Purple tiles act as wildcards and can represent any color needed to complete a pattern in your workshops. However, purple tiles cannot be moved to design cards. One-point tiles are collected and kept near your player board, but they are not placed in workshops or on design cards. When activating a workshop, if you move tiles to a design card with a 'discard' symbol, you must discard one tile from that workshop. If a design card has a 'City Hall' symbol, you move one tile to the City Hall board and take a purple bonus tile (or a one-point tile if no purple tiles are available). Purple tiles are always placed in the first workshop. If you activate a workshop and move tiles to a design card, and that card has a 'take tile' symbol, you can take any tile from the general supply and place it in any of your workshops.
