Munchkin

To set up Munchkin, separate the cards into door and treasure decks, shuffle them, and place them on the game board. Each player receives four cards from each deck, keeps them secret, and selects a color, placing one standee on the level one space of the tracker and keeping the other nearby. Players can customize their characters initially by playing race, class, and usable item cards from their hands.

The main objective of Munchkin is to race your opponents to level 10. Players start as level 1 characters and must defeat dungeon monsters, collect powerful treasures, acquire helpful equipment, and occasionally hinder their friends to achieve victory first.

A turn consists of three main phases. First, kick open the door by drawing and revealing the top card, which may be a curse, trap, or monster. Second, if you did not fight a monster, you can either look for trouble by playing a monster from your hand or loot the room by drawing a face-down door card. Third, during charity, if you have more than five cards, you must give extras to the lowest-level player or discard them.

Players primarily score and advance levels by defeating monsters in combat. Additional levels can be gained by playing special treasure cards or by selling equipped or carried items that total at least 1,000 gold pieces in value. Note that selling items or playing cards can never push you to the winning level 10.

The game ends immediately when a player defeats a monster and reaches level 10. If multiple players are involved or effects trigger simultaneously, the killing blow on a monster is strictly required to claim the ultimate victory.
