Setup
Shuffle new quest and power-up cards into their respective decks, assign airship mats and gadget tokens, place a fifth trophy token on each player's airship mat, and place the airship miniature on the portal space closest to the last player in turn order.
The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up the game, first shuffle the two new quest cards into the quest deck and the two new move and two new make power-up tiles into their related stacks. Each player is assigned an airship mat, either matching their animal kingdom or randomly. If the airship mat shows a gadget token, place the corresponding token on your mat. Place the fifth trophy token for your animal kingdom on the extra spot on your airship mat. Claim one of the six identical seek action cards and place it on your player mat, returning any unused ones to the box. Finally, assemble and place the airship miniature on the portal space closest to the base camp of the player who is last in the turn order.
Objective
The primary objective of the game remains to be the first player to earn a certain number of trophies. With the 'Pi in the Sky' expansion, this number is increased to five trophies, rather than the four required in the base game, adding an extra layer of strategic depth and extending gameplay.
On your turn
During your turn, when you perform a Seek action, you will roll the airship die along with the other dice related to that space. The airship die has two sides with a 'boost' (6) and four sides with a 'trophy'. If you roll a 'boost', you can move the airship up to six spaces. If you roll a 'trophy', you can move the airship up to the number of remaining trophies on your player mat. The airship can only stop on a space containing an apple or a gem. If you cannot reach such a space, you cannot move the airship or use its air support ability. However, if you start on a space already containing an item, you can stay there and use the air support. The airship moves above the board and is not required to stop if it enters a space with other seekers. It cannot enter a base camp or Castle Everfree, but it can enter a portal space without teleporting through it. A space is not considered occupied if it only contains the airship and no seekers. The airship cannot relocate apples and gems or start/defend pi-fights unless a specific ability allows it. After moving, you can either retrieve an apple or gem from the airship's space into your cargo hold or perform your unique airship ability. If you retrieve an item from a space with an opponent's seeker, you lose two friendship. Only one gadget token can be added to a space.
Scoring
At the end of the game, scoring proceeds as usual, with players tallying their points based on various achievements and resources. However, if there is a tie for the most resources, which is the second tie-breaker condition, players must remember to include the apples and gems stored in their cargo hold when calculating their total resources.
Game end
The game concludes immediately when any player successfully claims their fifth trophy. This new condition for ending the game, increased from four trophies in the base game, means players will need to adjust their strategies to account for the additional trophy requirement.
Tips
To maximize your chances of victory, strategically use the airship's movement and air support ability to gather apples and gems, especially those in contested areas. Remember that your cargo hold provides immediate access to stored resources, which can be crucial for completing quests or making deliveries, even if the airship is not physically present with your seeker. Pay attention to your unique airship ability and gadget tokens, as they can offer powerful advantages. Also, keep an eye on your opponents' trophy counts, as the game now ends when someone reaches five trophies, requiring a slightly longer-term strategy than the base game.
