Setup
Place the game board, bonus token, and object tiles in the bag; shuffle common objective cards, draw two, and place score tokens on them; each player takes a bookshelf and a secret individual objective card.
Place the game board, also known as the living room, in the center of the table. Place the end-game bonus token on its designated spot on the board. Put all 132 object tiles into the cloth bag. Shuffle the 12 common objective cards, draw two, and place them face-up next to the game board. Separate the score tokens by value (2, 4, 6, 8) and stack them on the common objective cards, with the highest value on top. The number of score tokens used depends on the number of players. Each player takes a three-piece bookshelf and assembles it, ensuring the wider base is at the bottom. Shuffle the 12 individual secret objective cards, deal one to each player, and place it in their card holder without revealing it to others. The remaining cards are returned to the box. Randomly choose a first player and give them the first player token (armchair).
Objective
The main objective of My Shelfie is to arrange your personal bookshelf by collecting and placing object tiles from the game board. Players aim to score points by fulfilling individual secret objectives, common objectives shared by all players, and by creating groups of identical adjacent object tiles within their bookshelf. The game is a race to complete these objectives efficiently, as the first player to complete certain common objectives earns more points. Ultimately, the player with the highest total score at the end of the game wins.
On your turn
During a player's turn, they must take 1-3 adjacent object tiles from the game board. These tiles must be adjacent to each other in a straight line (horizontally or vertically) and must not have any other tiles on top of them. After taking the tiles, the player places them into their personal bookshelf. The tiles must be placed in a single column, starting from the bottom-most available space and stacking upwards. Players cannot leave empty spaces below a newly placed tile within a column. After placing the tiles, the player checks if they have completed any common objectives or created new adjacent groups of identical objects.
Scoring
Points are accumulated in four ways. First, players score points from their individual secret objective card based on the exact placement of specific object tiles in their bookshelf. Second, points are awarded for completing common objectives; the first player to meet the requirements of a common objective takes the highest-value score token for that objective, while subsequent players take lower-value tokens. Third, players score points for groups of adjacent object tiles of the same type within their bookshelf, with larger groups yielding more points. Finally, the player who triggers the end of the game by filling their bookshelf receives an additional bonus point token.
Game end
The game ends immediately when a player completely fills their bookshelf with object tiles. This player takes the end-game bonus token (worth 1 point). Play then continues until the player to the right of the first player has completed their turn, ensuring everyone has an equal number of turns. If the player who triggered the end of the game is also the player to the right of the first player, the game ends immediately after their turn. After all players have had an equal number of turns, final scores are calculated. Each player sums points from their collected score tokens (from common objectives and the end-game bonus), points from their individual secret objective card, and points from adjacent groups of identical object tiles in their bookshelf. The player with the highest total score wins.
Tips
For your initial game, it is recommended to use only one common objective to simplify gameplay and allow players to grasp the core mechanics. When pursuing common objectives, aim to complete them quickly, as the first player to achieve them receives a higher point reward. Pay close attention to the placement of object tiles in your bookshelf to create large groups of identical adjacent items, as these can provide significant bonus points. Also, consider how your tile choices might prevent opponents from completing their objectives or forming valuable groups.
