The rules, step by step
Setup
Nusfjord is set up by giving each player a personal player board with a default catfish boat track, fishing boat tokens, shared markers, and three workers. The central action board is populated with general actions, while building card decks A, B, and C are prepared, with deck A available initially. Fish tokens are placed in the central general supply, and the round marker boat is set to round one.
Objective
Players act as fishing company owners in the Lofoten archipelago, aiming to develop their coastal areas, build fleets, issue shares, and satisfy elders to accumulate the highest victory point total over seven rounds.
On your turn
Each round consists of three phases: the fishing phase where boat sizes determine fish income and shares distribute dividends, the action phase where players take turns placing their workers on available action spaces to harvest resources, deforest, build ships, construct buildings, or interact with elders, and a round cleanup phase.
Scoring
At the end of the game, points are gained from constructed buildings, built ships, issued shares in your supply, and remaining gold. Points are lost for empty spaces on your player board and unissued shares, and one bonus point is awarded per gold.
Game end
The game naturally ends after the completion of the seventh round, immediately preceding the final scoring phase where all player assets and penalties are calculated to determine the winner.
Tips
Balancing fish production with worker placement is crucial, as fish act as currency to feed elders and construct buildings. Keep an eye on share issuance for quick cash, but manage them well to avoid end-game penalties.
