Progress: Evolution of Technology

To set up a 3-player game, first separate all Technology cards into three decks based on their Age (Age I, Age II, Age III) as indicated on their backs. From each Age deck, remove all cards marked '4+' and '5+' (these are for games with more players). The remaining cards for each Age are then shuffled to form the Age I, Age II, and Age III Technology decks. Each player selects a color and receives 10 wooden markers and a Player Board. Players place one wooden marker on the starting position of each of the seven Skill Tracks on their Player Board. The Power Board is placed in the middle of the gaming area, and each player places one of their remaining three wooden markers on the starting position of each of the three Power Tracks. The Knowledge cards are separated into four stacks and placed near the Power Board, along with the black wooden markers. The shuffled Age I Technology deck is placed near the Power Board, leaving space for a discard pile. The Age II and Age III decks are set aside for later use. Finally, a starting player is chosen.

The primary objective in Progress: Evolution of Technology is to guide your civilization through different historical ages, from antiquity to the modern era, by accumulating the most victory points. Players achieve this by researching new technologies, which represent advancements in various fields like science, culture, and military. These technologies not only provide immediate benefits but also contribute to a player's overall score. Additionally, players develop their skills and gather knowledge, which are crucial for unlocking more advanced technologies and earning further victory points. The game is a race to build the most advanced and prosperous civilization, with strategic planning and efficient resource management being key to success.

During a player's turn, they will typically perform actions such as researching new technologies, which involves paying a cost in resources and potentially meeting certain skill requirements. Players can also choose to develop their skills by moving their markers along the Skill Tracks on their Player Board, which grants them access to more powerful technologies and abilities. Activating card abilities is another common action, allowing players to gain additional resources, manipulate cards, or influence other aspects of the game. The choices made during a turn are critical, as they impact a player's ability to acquire new technologies, advance their civilization, and ultimately earn victory points.

Scoring in Progress: Evolution of Technology occurs at the end of the game. Players earn victory points primarily from the technologies they have successfully researched and added to their civilization. Each technology card has a specific victory point value. In addition to technologies, players also gain victory points based on their progress along the various Skill Tracks on their Player Board. The further a player has advanced in a particular skill, the more points they will receive for that skill. Finally, any accumulated Knowledge cards also contribute to a player's final score. The player with the highest total victory points from technologies, skills, and knowledge is declared the winner.

The game of Progress: Evolution of Technology concludes after a predetermined number of rounds, which is typically triggered by the depletion of the Age III Technology deck. Once the last card from the Age III deck is drawn, players complete the current round, and then the game immediately ends. At this point, all players calculate their final victory points based on their researched technologies, their progress on the Skill Tracks, and any Knowledge cards they have acquired. The player who has amassed the greatest number of victory points is the winner, signifying their civilization's superior advancement and prosperity throughout history.
